You can teach her the command “watch” and ask her to watch at you before she is going to bark at people or cats. As she is looking at you, she is not looking at other cats or people so this makes her has no reason to bark.
You can also teach her to play tug. Play tug with her before she barks at other people or cats. Same thing. As she is looking at you with her mouth busily tugging on the toy, it makes her impossible to bark.

Ive recently got a 1 year old jrt and the only command she knows vagually is sit and is good at name recall, any tips for training her not to bark at cats or people whilst on a walk?

Try telling her not to….. And push her away if she keeps on doing it… They are very clever dogs, but also very stubborn….

jrts are incredibly easy to train. I’ve got a 2 year old male at home, I thought him pretty much all those tricks she just did in the course of an afternoon. Intelligent dogs for sure.

wow nice training i wonder if the training process was hard because JRT are so highper and jumpy my poor dog is stil learning but i cant get her to master the commands i have to say it like 10 times and finally he does it.
