How do I help my dog? She is a mini Dachshund/Jack Russell Terrior mix, 6 yrs. old. She has Arthritis in her?

back and I know she is in excruciating pain. I know my dog very well and I can tell by her facial expressions that she is hurting badley. The fact that she suffers has caused me to become depressed and very bitter because animals are utterly clean and pure in soal and they NEVER deserve to suffer. Is there a pain releiver for her and should I apply heat or ice? Is their any cure? How can I prevent her twin sister from getting Artheritus too? Please help us…

Your little dog needs to be assessed by a veterinarian or vet tech. She may have more serious problem than arthritis at age 6 yrs. I suspect dachsund are prone to neurological conditions because of the sway in their long spine supported by short legs. And you are wise in checking before giving a canine ibuprofen, tylenol and aspirin, as these meds do not convert in canines and do become toxic to the kidneys.

Something called MetaCam is an antiinflammatory for dogs that is also tolerated by felines. It is a liquid and pretty expensive, but gives them a little relief.

Your little dog is lucky that you are so tuned into her and sensitive to her pain….so sad when a little animal is in so much pain.

She really should be looked at by a professional.
